Hiking tour in the Zala countryside

We propose not one, but two walking tours to you. These can fit in one day, but they can be split in two if you include more walking and less driving. Rezi Castle and „Béke Stupa” will be the targets.

Although Nemesvita is located in Veszprém County, it is only a few kilometers from the border of Zala County. You can get to the “other side” of the Keszthely Mountains by car or on foot. First, you have to enter Rezi/ or Zalaszántó in the navigation. The road takes you through the Keszthely Mountains and offers a unique panorama of Lake Balaton. Leaving Lesencetomaj and Lesencefalu, on the road leading to the Castle Valley, the beautiful view unfolds in front of your eyes. If you had enough of the wiew, keep going. When you arrive at Várvölgy, drive slowly, because after a few hundred meters, on the left, there will be a decorated grey building, which is the local shop and bakery. I suggest you stop here and go shopping for a picnic. The sourdough breads in the hiden back corner of the shop – baked locally – and cheeses and sausages from local producers would be a shame to miss out. Once you have your picnic basket, head to Rezi.

The road towards the Rezi Castle leads through the village of Rezi. The road in the woods leading to the village is very beautiful. Then through the village you will arive to a dirt road. This is quite a long road. If you want to walk more, you can park your car there and continue the tour on foot. If you want to reach your destination faster, you can drive about 5 km more on the road – quite slowly – and you will find parking lots at the bottom of the mountain, so you only have to walk the uphill part. The castle offers a beautiful view of the green landscape of Zala. You can have a picnic there, there is a fire pit as well.

If you admired the 270-degree view from the lonely castle, you can walk back to the car and visit the „Béke Stupa” a few kilometers away – in the middle of a fabulous forest – one of Europe’s largest Buddhist sanctuary.
